1000 MW solar plant approved in US by Justin Blows

According to this report, a $6 billion-plus solar thermal plant, using parabolic trough technology, by Solar Mellennium and Chevron at Blythe has won clearance to from the California Energy Commission.

The plant will have a capacity of 1,000 megawatts. By comparison, for all of last year, the U.S. installed about 481 megawatts of solar energy, according to the Solar Energy Industry Association. The largest solar plants to date are in the 200-350 megawatt range.

Reuter’s is referring to the plant as “the world’s biggest”.
