Concentrated Photovoltaic – the way forward? by Justin Blows

I have seen a few reports, like this one, on concentrated photovoltaic systems (CPV). It seems that the technology is attracting at lot of attention because of claims that it is cheaper than other solar technologies, such as concentrating solar thermal, and does not consume much water.

The report cited above discloses a CPV system by Skyline Solar.  I note that Skyline Solar used the accelerated examination program for renewable energy technologies provided by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (Green Technology Pilot Program) to get rapid grant of their patent application.   Allowance came a very brisk 2 month after acceptance into the program.  Some of Skyline’s published patent applications are linked here. It has been a busy couple of years for their patent attorneys.

Another concentrated PV company is Amonix.  Amonix has attracted large amounts of funding recently.  Read a post about them here.
